IRNA - A former member of the under-21 German national team and starting midfielder of second division squad VfB Luebeck is to play in future for Iran`s national team, the daily
Berliner Zeitung reported Wednesday.
Ferydoon Zandi, whose father is Iranian and mother is German, said that he would play in Iran`s upcoming match against Laos.
"In Germany, fans are only watching national matches to see their national team lose. I don`t like that," the 24-year-old Zandi added, explaining his decision "to switch sides".
The latest changes in FIFA rules have enabled the ex-German junior player to play for the A-team of another country.
Zandi who has also been linked with Hamburger SV and Hannover 96, is currently ranked third in the second Bundesliga goalscoring table.
The German-Iranian footballer was considered a great talent by football scouts but has so far failed to meet their high expectations.
