AFC - Asian Games gold medallists Iran will join 2002 World Cup finalists Denmark and Uruguay in an international quadrangular tournament to be played in Hong Kong next year.

Eskandarian Signs With M.L.S.


NYTimes - Alecko Eskandarian signed a five-year contract with Major League Soccer yesterday and most likely will be the No. 1 selection when the league's draft is held in Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 17.``All I've got to do now is FedEx it back to the league,'' Eskandarian said yesterday from his parents' home in Montvale, N.J. His father, Andranik, played for the Cosmos in the early 1980's and also played for Iran in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina.

Rafaat, “Persepolis gave great performance”


PLDC - In the 7th week of the Iranian Professional League, Persepolis faced Fajr Shiraz at home and won the match with the result of 2-0. The goal by Persepolis in the first half was scored by Payan Rafaat in the 37th minute. In a post match interview with the press, Rafaat said, “We witnessed a smooth, professional game from Persepolis after a long time. This victory made the fans and the players happy.”

Golmohammadi scores after 7 years


PLDC - The 2nd goal for Persepolis was scored by Yahya Golmohammadi, Persepolis defender, in the 80th minute of the match against Fajr Sepassi in the 7th week of the Iranian Professional League. This was Golmohammadi’s first goal in the last seven years as Persepolis defender.

Kazemian is gaining popularity in the UAE


PLDC - Javad Kazemian, Iranian player of Al Ahli, has become popular with the club after scoring two goals in recent games. His popularity has increased with the fans and club officials. In a recent press interview he commented, “I scored a nice goal in the last match and fulfilled my promise. I had made a bet with some of the Al Ahli boys that I would score any free kick awarded to us and I won it.”

Bagheri is recovering from injury


PLDC - Persepolis played against Fajr Shiraz at home and won the match with the result of 2-0 in the 7th week of the Iranian Professional League with Karim Bagheri, Persepolis player, watching from the bench. After the match Bagheri who is still recovering from injury briefly spoke to the press.

Khoramgah, “Esteghlal is ready for Shiraz”


PLDC - Esteghlal of Tehran will play against Bargh Shiraz in Shiraz today, 14/12/2002, which is the final match of the 7th week of the Professional League. Before leaving for Shiraz Mohammad Khoramgah, Esteghlal of Tehran player, commented, “Esteghlal is fine and prepared. We are hopefully going to win.”

May is happy with results


PLDC - In the 7th week of the Professional League, Saipa Tehran defeated Sanat Naft of Abadan with the score of 1-0. The winning goal of this match was scored by Soltani in the 74th minute. Saipa now occupies 4th pace in the League table with 11 points. So far they have won three games, drawn 2 and lost two.

Esteghlal climbs table after 2-1 victory


PLDC - Esteghlal Tehran played against Bargh Shiraz in Tehran won with the result of 2-1 in the final match of the 7th week of the Iranian Professional League. Both teams played a very exciting match and managed to score against each other. In the first half Ali Samareh scored the first goal for Esteghlal and Mohammad Mansouri scored for Bargh on a penalty.
