IRNA - German-Iranian midfielder Ashkan Dejagah has surprised Hertha Berlin's management by signing a three-year contract with Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg, the sports press reported Thursday.

The 21-year-old Dejagah, who is to join his new club on a transfer-free basis at the end of the season, will reportedly earn around one million euros a year.

The German Under-21 national team footballer was initially expected to extend his contract with Hertha Berlin.

Dejagah, who joind Berlin as a junior player in 2000, was also linked to other Bundesliga clubs, notably FC Nuremberg and Borussia Dortmund.

The speedy Hertha Berlin striker has been hailed by football experts as one of Bundesliga's top discoveries at the halfway point of this season.
