TEHRANTIMES - Iran football coach Carlos Queiroz says the national team’s goal is to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and Iran supporters should not get overjoyed after a win or become disappointed after a defeat.

Iran beat South Korea 1-0 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium last Tuesday thanks to a goal from captain Javad Nekounam.

“We have an obvious goal which is to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. We should concentrate on this and not celebrate after a win or get disappointed from a defeat,” Carlos Queiroz said.

“The atmosphere in the stadium against South Korea was terrific and the fans were right behind us. I had been in a lot of big matches but the game against South Korea was a special day for me.

“The main key to our success in this match was that the players did their job well. They did all of the things that I told them in the dressing room.”

Iran is grouped with South Korea, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Lebanon for the final round of the Asian World Cup qualifying stages and need to finish at least second to qualify for Brazil 2014.

Iran is scheduled to face Uzbekistan in Tehran on November 14.

South Korea remains above of Iran in Group A on goal difference. Uzbekistan is third with five points and Qatar and Lebanon are fourth and fifth both with four points.
