TEHRANTIMES - Esteghlal booked a place in the semi-final round of the Iran’s Hazfi Cup on Wednesday after beating First Division Abu Moslam 5-0 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.


Esteghlal midfielder Jlloyd Samuel powered a header into the back of the net in 25th minute. Farzad Hatami extended Esteghlal’s lead with a diving header one minute after the break.

The referee showed Abu Moslem’s penalty spot following a handball in the area. Javad Nekounam converted his penalty kick to made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute.  

Hatami scored once again in the 65th minute with a powerful shot.

Pejman Montazeri struck Esteghlal’s last goal in the 76th minute.

Esteghlal will face Sepahan in the Iran’s Hazfi Cup semi-final.

Elsewhere, Sepahan defeated Sanat Naft 2-0 in Isfahan. Ervin Bulku scored the opening goal from long distance in the 27th minute. Farshid Talebi’s header secured a 2-0 victory for Iranian powerhouse Sepahan.

Damash also defeated Sepasi 4-3 in the penalty shootout in Rasht.
