MEF - Struggling outfits Al-Shabab of Dubai show no let-up in their quest to maintain themselves in the top flight next season, when they announced today the signing of Brazilian schemer Giraldo Da Silva.

The 28-year old new import is expected to fill the gap of Iranian Mehrdad Minavand, after gaining the full faith of German manager Rainer Hollman at the end of a one-week trial period.

Minavand, a versatile defender who can turn on as an all-round midfielder, has signed a two-year contract with Al-Shabab at the beginning of the season, and sources close to the club say “we are open to any offer concerning the player.”

“We are making everything possible for Mr. Hollman to guide the side quite properly in the remainder of the season, in terms of players signings,” added the same sources.

The Brazilian playmaker steered Bahia to the 2000/2001 league championship title in Brazil, after having a 2-year spell in Portugal.

“He signed for us a 6-month deal, to be extended at the end of the season should positive results take place,” said Al-Shabab sources today.
