IRNA - Esteqlal and Persepolis tied 1-1 in
the 11th week of second Iran Pro League (IPL) in Tabriz, East Azarbaijan
province, on Friday.
In front of over 60,000 flag-waving fans in Yadegar-e Imam Stadium, the two
sides shared the points. Following a defending blunder from the reds'
full-back Yahya Golmohammadi, Esteqlal striker Ali Samereh fired home in the
first minute sending the blues wild with applause.
Persepolis came close to the equalizer in the second half as striker Reza
Jabbari's header from close range was denied by stretching hand of goalie
Hadi Tabatabaei and the post. The reds secured parity in the 70th minute
when defender Ali Ansarian wrong-footed Tabatabaei from the spot kick.
Esteqlal left winger Alireza Nikbakht-Vahedi was judged by the Italian
referee Roberto Rosetti to have tripped the advancing defending of
Persepolis Behrouz Rahbarifard in the area.
Winning 21 points, Persepolis is at the second place of IPL table and
Esteqlal of Tehran is at the sixth spot with 16 points.
Despite a 1-0 loss to the bottom-placed Esteqlal of Ahvaz on Thursday,
Sepahan of Isfahan is still the leader of the league, collecting 28 points.
