This victory set a new
club record for points in Serie A and was a fitting birthday present for
Coach Serse Cosmi, who blew out 44 candles on the cake today.
Perugia were aiming for the Intertoto Cup and opened the scoring after
just eight minutes. Captain Giovanni Tedesco's header was parried into the
path of teammate Fabio Bazzani for the easiest of strikes.
Brazilian Ze Maria waved goodbye to the home fans ahead of a big money
move this summer. The winger marked his last game with one of his
trademark free kicks.
Just before the break Fiorentina's appalling season took another turn for
the worse as Tarozzi was sent off.
There was a sense of deja-vu when the start of the second half was delayed
by a freak thunderstorm. The Viola provided few problems for Perugia as
they romp home to victory.
