Iranian Mohsen Bayatina
(front) fights for the ball against Syrian Mahmud Yahya during their 2nd
West Asian Games tournament match in Kuwait City
PFDC - The Iranian B team
could not do any better than pulling off a draw against the younger team
of Syria. With this tie, Iran is no longer the favorites to win this
tournament.
It took 38 minutes for Iran to pull one in by a good team work when Javad
Kazemian sent a short cross to Nekounam who scored from close range to
make it 1:0 for the Iranians.
The second half started with both teams playing a more dynamic football
when Iran lost a series of chances but it was finally the Syrians who had
the last laugh when in minute 85 from a clear mistake by the Iranian
keeper Mirzapour, Balal heads in the ball over Mirzapour who had left the
woodwork and failed to clear the ball.
The game ended at 1:1 which placed both Iran and Syria on top with 5
points.
In the second game of today, hosts Kuwait will take on Palestine to clear
the confusion in the table.
Iran will play against Kuwait on Friday April 12th.
