IraqSoccer - When Iraq meet Iran on Wednesday, it will be the 17th time the two Asian football giants meet.
Among other things, history does not favour the Iraqis to win this game.

The Iraqis have usually struggled against their Persian neighbors. In fact, they've had to wait for over 30 years to register their first win against their neighbors at the senior level in a competitive match, which came as late as October 1993. Despite that, the first match between the two teams ended in an Iraqi victory.

Over 16 matches, Iran have won 9 , compared to Iraq's 3. Nevertheless, it is a memorable encounter between the two nations' U-20 sides in 1977 in Tehran, where the Iraqis won the Asian cup then with a last minute goal from legend Hussien Sa'eed to make the score 4 - 3, that the Iraqis like to remember the most. The Iraqis have also good memories with another heroic U-20 side, as a promising generation marched to the helm of Asia in 2000, beating Iran in the semi-final in Tehran on PK's.
