Tehran Times - Persepolis football team cemented their place at summit of the Iran Professional League (IPL) table with a win over Tractor Sazi on Friday.

Persepolis defeated Tractor Sazi 2-0 thank to two goals from Ali Alipour and Kamal Kamyabinia at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.

Alipour headed home from Mohsen Mosalman's cross just before the break.

With 12 minutes remaining, Kamyabinia also found the back of the net after receiving a good pass from Alipour.

Persepolis lead the table with 40 points, nine points above Foolad at the second place.

“I am very happy because we need this three points after draw with Foolad last week. Tractor Sazi played very organized and made it difficult for us but we dominated the match,” Persepolis coach Branko Ivankovic said in the post-match news conference.

Ivankovic also admitted Persepolis arch rivals Esteghlal, Foolad and Tractor Sazi are in title race.

Elsewhere, Zob Ahan edged past Gostaresh Foolad 1-0 in Tabriz, Siahjamegan defeated Sepidrood Rasht 2-0, Paykan were held to a 1-1 draw by Pars Jonoubi, struggling Naft Tehran suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Foolad, Sepahan humiliated Padideh 4-0 and Sanat Naft defeated Saipa 3-0 in Abadan.

On Thursday, Esteghlal had defeated Esteghlal Khuzestan 3-0 in Ahvaz.

Esteghlal moved up to fifth place, 14 points behind Persepolis.
