MEF - Euphoria following 2 inaugural wins
seems missing French manager Bruno Metsu as Al-Ain are heading towards a
titanic clash against Iranian giants Esteghlal on Saturday.
“Sure we have claimed all possible 6 points from 2 matches, but we must be
at our mercurial best to overcome Esteghlal in the last fixture,” stated
Al-Ain manager.
Esteghlal, who started the Asian Champions’ League quarter-finals
round-robin campaign here in the city of Al-Ain with a 2-1 victory over
Al-Sadd, were narrowly floored 3-2 by Saudis Al-Hilal in their second
outing, and are now in search for all 3 points in order to move to the
semi-finals stage of the competition.
“We have taken every game on its own, assessed our opponents’ capabilities
and successfully gained well-deserved victories – the very same must be
done against Esteghlal,” added Metsu.
“They are a side boasting fabulous talents and vastly-experienced stars,
still paying too much respect to them could cost us dear.
“This being said, I don’t believe we were lucky in gaining all 6 points,
as some people suggested here.
“We will be tacking Saturday’s final fixture with an aggressive mood
regardless of the final outcome of the other tie, we have an army of fans
backing us, and I see no reason preventing us from rattling in our third
successive victory,” concluded the Frenchman.
