GOAL - Safa announced on Friday morning that they will unveil the new coach next week
Bafana Bafana have been without a coach since Shakes Mashaba was fired in December 2016.
Now, with South Africa scheduled to play two international friendlies later this month, the South African Football Association (Safa) has been working around the clock to find Mashaba's successor.
The country's FA is expected to announce the new coach next week.
Safa's latest pronouncements would mean that they have reached an agreement with Bafana's next manager, reports suggest that Carlos Queiroz, who's believed to be Danny Jordaan's preferred choice, is still contracted to Iran.
The Iranian Football Association is reportedly reluctant to release Queiroz from his contract even after the 63-year-old coach handed in his resignation letter.
If the reports are true, then Safa will have to look elsewhere, and the next manager could be none other than Herve Renard.
The French tactician is one of the respected coaches on the continent with Africa Cup of Nations titles to his name in the last five years. The race for the Bafana job is reportedly between him and Queiroz, and if Safa fais to sign to tie down the former Real Madrid boss.
Earlier this week, media reports suggested that Renard had resigned as head coach of Morocco.
However, his assistant Mustapha Hadji poured cold water on the reports.
“This is completely wrong,” Hadji told lematin.
“It is complete disinformation. In any case, he does not imagine leaving until he has achieved something great with Morocco,” he said.
The fact that Hadji, and not Renard himself, dismissed the rumours raised a few eyebrows, but if Safa is to lure the Frenchman, he won’t come cheap, especially if he's still contracted to Morocco.
