AFC - Qatar's Al Sadd have boosted their hopes of advancing beyond the group stage of the AFC Champions League by signing Brazilian striker Romario on a short-term contract.

According to AFP, the 37-year-old, who was a key member of Brazil's 1994 World Cup winning squad, has inked a three-month contract with the Qatar champions and will be eligible to play in Group C of the AFC Champions League from March 9-15 in the United Arab Emirates.

"Romario signed a three-month contract with Al Sadd a few days ago worth US$1.5 million," said Al Sadd spokesman Khaled Jabr al-Nuaimi on Sunday.

Romario, who has previously played for Spanish giants Barcelona and Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, has reportedly received the approval of his current Brazilian side Fluminense for the move.

Al Sadd will face United Arab Emirates league champions Al Ain, Saudi Arabian champions Al Hilal and Iranian giants Esteghlal in the AFC Champions League group stage.
